Lesley Gore 1946to –2015

American pop singer, best known for her #1 hit “It’s My Party.” She recorded “It’s My Party” in 1963 when she was only 16; it was such a success, she was rushed back into the studio to record the sequel “It’s Judy’s Turn to Cry” that same year. At 17, she recorded her second biggest hit “You Don’t Own Me,” a revolutionary song for its daringly feminist lyrics. Her other accomplishments include a two-episode stint on the television show Batman, and working with her brother Michael Gore on the soundtrack to Fame. She was an out lesbian in her personal life since her 20s, and came out publicly in more recent years.
